Welcome to Terroir & Beverage, recorded live from SIAL Canada 2026 in Montréal.
Atlantic Canada Is Quietly Becoming One of Canada’s Most Interesting Food and Beverage Laboratories
Every year, SIAL allows us to look beyond the products on display and meet the people building the future of Canada’s food and beverage industry. While much of the conversation often focuses on major brands and emerging trends, some of the most important innovation is happening at the regional level, where producers, manufacturers and industry associations are working together to help businesses grow beyond their local markets.
One region that continues to surprise the industry is Atlantic Canada.
Over the past decade, the Maritimes have become one of Canada’s most dynamic food and beverage ecosystems. Independent breweries continue to earn national recognition, ready-to-drink beverages are flourishing, functional drinks are emerging, and entrepreneurs are transforming local ingredients into products with national and international ambitions.
Behind much of that momentum is Food & Beverage Atlantic, an organization representing more than 225 food and beverage manufacturers across the four Atlantic provinces. Beyond advocacy, the organization helps businesses connect with retailers, distributors, funding opportunities, co-packers, automation partners and export markets—essentially acting as one of the region’s most important growth engines.

At SIAL Canada, we sat down with Tammy Brideau, Executive Director of Food & Beverage Atlantic, to discuss the trends shaping Atlantic Canada’s food and beverage industry, the rise of healthier beverages, the growing importance of ethnic foods, interprovincial trade opportunities, and why collaboration has become one of the region’s biggest competitive advantages.
Whether you’re a brewery looking to expand nationally, a food producer exploring new markets, or simply curious about where Canada’s next generation of brands is coming from, this conversation offers an insightful look at one of the country’s fastest-growing food ecosystems.

About Beverage + Terroir
As the beverage and beer industries evolve, so too does the media that covers them. For several years, we’ve been reporting on the industry outside of Quebec in English through our Baron Mag and BBQ (Business of Beer of Quebec) podcasts.
With Beverage + Terroir, we’ve expanded our coverage to encompass beer, beverages, and food, providing a comprehensive look at the entire industry and its complex interconnections. The podcast explores not only trends, innovations, and market shifts, but also the people, places, and processes that define the craft, commercial, and artisanal sectors across Canada, the USA, and beyond.
Beverage + Terroir aims to give listeners a deeper understanding of how local ingredients, regional terroir, and industry dynamics shape the drinks we enjoy — from pint to plate.
