Who are you and what is your background?
Sophie Roy, graduating from the Montreal School of Woodworking. Before landing as a student at EAMS, I studied arts and literature and traveled a little (a lot).
Your current job:
Full-time student until last week, and part-time cabinetmaker next week!
In what city?
Montreal, but I’m moving soon to Limoilou in Quebec City.

Posivouée (I could not choose between positive and dedicated)
What inspires you when you create?
I have a great passion for Scandinavian furniture, I think it shows in my projects!
Without realizing it, my creations often have a very feminine and delicate side which mix softness, comfort and pastel colors.
D’ailleurs, pour mon dernier projet je me suis inspirée d’un souvenir que j’avais avec ma grand-mère. Je crois que ça lui aurait beaucoup plus car j’ai choisi mes matériaux en pensant à elle et je trouve que mon meuble lui ressemble.
Qu’est-ce que L’École d’ébénisterie d’art de Montréal vous a apporté?
Sans parler de toutes les techniques différentes que j’ai apprises, je me suis réellement épanouie durant mes 3 ans à l’école. Ceux qui me connaissent bien savent à quel point c’était difficile et que j’ai travaillé fort, mais j’ai acquis une bonne discipline de travail, de la minutie et surtout j’ai appris à vraiment bien gérer mon stress! Pratiquement du jour au lendemain, au lieu de paniquer devant mes erreurs, j’ai su les accepter et pratiquement en rire! C’était trois années vraiment bien chargées, mais tellement enrichissantes!
The meetings I made there have also greatly influenced my journey. Teachers are passionate about cabinet making (they do not eat wood, but almost!) And know very well how to share their love of wood!
