As the beverage industry becomes increasingly shaped by regulatory pressure — spanning taxation, public health policy, environmental rules, and distribution frameworks — industry associations are playing a more strategic role than ever in representing producers and brands.

Against this backdrop, the Canadian Beverage Association has appointed Devon Hill as its new Director of Government Relations for Western Canada.

In a LinkedIn post, Hill confirmed he has officially joined the association to lead government relations efforts across the region, a key market where provincial policies and regulatory frameworks significantly influence how beverage products are produced, marketed, and distributed.

Prior to joining the association, Hill spent five years at Earnscliffe Strategies, a public affairs and government relations consulting firm, where he worked from March 2021 onward.

A sector increasingly shaped by policy

The beverage industry — both alcoholic and non-alcoholic — is facing growing regulatory complexity across multiple fronts:

  • advertising and marketing restrictions
  • beverage taxation frameworks
  • public health policy debates
  • environmental regulations
  • provincial distribution systems

In this context, associations like the Canadian Beverage Association are becoming critical intermediaries between industry stakeholders and policymakers.

👉 Bottom line: competition in beverages is no longer just commercial — it’s increasingly political.
